Sumith Ramachandran

Sumith Ramachandran is an Indian guitarist who has been performing professionally since the age of 9. He is also known as “Monster Guitarist” as he is one of India's most skilled and accomplished guitar players. Little did his younger self knew that he would perform an average of 230+ shows a year. Ehsaan Noorani who happens to be the first guitar player from India to be endorsed by Fender guitars, once said that “I would get nervous if he (Sumith Ramachandran) was in the audience.” He has composed an album called “Nagarratri” in collaboration with Urban Reflektionz, an album of popular Christmas songs featuring Rila Banerjee and with Every Good Wish. He has also performed with the famous South Indian playback singers like K J Yesudas, P Susheela and T M Sounder Rajan.

Sumith was also a part of numerous orchestras in Tamil Nadu and Kerala between 1980 to 1993. He is one of India's most accomplished and complete guitar players, who set up any style, including jazz-rock, country, blues, classic rock, and Carnatic genres, with equal ease. It is this versatility that sets him apart from most of the guitar players. Sumith has performed at the Java Jazz festival in Jakarta in March of 2009. He also toured in India, the Middle East, Australia, USA, Kenya, Tanzania, The Netherlands and New Zealand with Shiva, a Kolkata-based band. He is also a part of singer Usha Uthup’s line up that plays guitar and keyboards for her in live concerts and as well as studio recordings. In India, he has been associated with Indian jazz legend Carlton Kitto and Anto Menezes. He was also connected with the singer Gary Lawyer and The Saturday Night Blues Band. Outside India, he has played with guitarist Vinny Valentino.

Sumith performed twice a week with classic rock band Hip Pocket at Someplace Else, the best place for live music in Kolkata. Sumith owns a band called Plan B who are dedicated in performing originals and jazzed up cover of popular songs. He also opened for the guitar player Wayne Krantz’ Kolkata concert in 2010. Sumith was also the brand ambassador of a French-Canadian company called Godin guitars from 2012 to 2013, Roland GT-100 from 2014 until now, and GB&A guitars.
