Tamil devotional singer, Saradasridevi, also known as Bombay Saradha, has a family background of singers. After singing for A R Rahman’s composition KuchiKuchiRakkamma in Manirathnam’s film Bombay (1995) at the age of 7-years-old, she is popularly known as Bombay Saradha.
Saradha has learnt classical music from her mother, Smt. M R Vijaya and Smt. Sarojini Balakrishnan since the age of 5.Saradha’s family was one of great musicians as her mother was also a singer. And not only a singer but the winner of the prestigious President award for Carnatic music. Her mother was trained from the age of 3 by Sri KunnakudyVaidhyanathan. Later she continued her training with Balasubramaniam, nephew of G. N. Balasubramaniam.
After that, she married an equally proficient singer to her, Sri CBalakrishnan. She has done around 10,000 concerts in India and abroad. Saradha’s grandfather C Chakrapani was also a singer, a disciple of Sri MaharajapuramVishwanathaIyer. Saradha now lives in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She sings in temples as well as various Tamil organizations, Tamil Isai Sangams, sabhas, etc.
