Nanjiyamma was born on 1^st January 1960 in Nakkupathi, Attappadi Reserve in Palakkad, Kerala. She is a farmer by profession and also a folksinger. Sindhu Sajan, a school teacher and theater activist, made her sing Aggedu Nayaga in a documentary movie, Mathrumozhi. Nanjiyamma writes lyrics in the Irula language and the Kerala Government had used it for a housing program. It is the first time, Irula language is used in Kerala to promote a government program.
