Sobhana Parameswaran Nair was a film producer working in the Malayalam cinema industry. He was born on September 26, 1927, and raised by his parents, Narayana Pillai and Kunjiamma, in Chirayinkeezhu Thiruvananthapuram. He married Saraswati Amma and had two children with her.
Sobhana Parameswaran Nair’s journey toward building a successful career started after he completed his education at Sarkara Sreechithirathirunal School. He then pursued photography, which eventually led him to the path of establishing his own company called Shobhana Studio in Thrissur. In 1953, he also became a photographer for Neelakuyil, a film directed by Ramu Karyat and written by P. Bhaskaran.
Sobhana Parameswaran Nair debuted his first produced movie, Ninamaninja Kalpadukal, in 1963, which earned him a well-deserved President Silver Medal Award and recognition in the industry. Later in the same year, he established a production company called Navaratna Films along with KV Devdas and LK Karunaran Pillai.
His career as a producer peaked with the release of several other movies, including Nagarame Nandi (1967), Kallichellamma (1969), Abhayam (1970), Nrithasala (1972), Thulavarsham (1976), Poojakkedukkatha Pookkal (1977), Ammuvinte Attinkutty(1978), and Kochu Themmadi (1986).
A. Vincent was the director of most of his movies, and their genres ranged from romance to thrillers. The films produced by Sobhana Parameswaran Nair were up for nomination for multiple awards, from which his movie “Ammuvinte Attinkutty” won the Best Film award for Best Children’s Film in 1978. He was also honored with the Asianet Film Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Unfortunately, the news of his death made headlines on May 21, 2009, in a private hospital at 81. However, his creations continue to live on with the legacy of his hard work and dedication.
