Mathew Samuel is a journalist who was born in Pathanapuram in Kerala. He did his graduation from St Stephens College in Pathanapuram. He was the College Union Secretary. Right from his college days, he had been active in politics. Samuel joined Mangalam newspaper and had been working in Delhi. He also worked for Midday. After some years, he got a staff reporter job in Tehelka, a magazine, which is popular for its investigative journalism. In 2014, he became the managing editor of Tehelka. While residing in Delhi, he worked for India Today. Besides these, he had also worked for many TV channels, including Live India, News X and India TV.
The term Operation West End is very popular and it is the first operation of Tehelka. It took nearly eight months to collect the information and expose the corruption involved in 2001. It created a huge wave in the nation and Tehelka turned much popular. This is one of the biggest corruption investigations to date. After this case, some of the Ministers resigned from their posts and many are convicted. This operation was Mathew’s brainchild and he put in a huge effort to expose the corruption. The basic idea started when he traveled on a train when he came to know about a defense canteen supplier, who traveled along with him on the train. Samuel shot 99 of 105 videotapes and his colleagues shot the rest.
In 2016, Mathew Samuel quit his job in Tehelka and launched his channel, Narada News. Mathews’ next big sting operation started after launching his channel, Narada News. Again, it started searching for the politicians who were involved in corruption. However, this time, the political party stated that the videos are forged. Mathews’ Narada News channel has a website and the investigations and the news are published on the website.
