Bhadran Mattel is a director and writer of Indian origins. He was born in the state of Kerala in Palai. During the four decades that he worked in the Malayalam Film Industry, he made films surrounding themes such as psychological thrillers, dysfunctional homes, and Christian cultures, which were considered very unconventional at that time. He was a trained musician and a theatre enthusiast. Bhadran started by working as an assistant to Hariharan for the production house Supriya. His first independent direction was Ente Mohangal Poovaninjuin in 1982. In 1983, he made Changatham which was termed a commercial hit. He directed Spadikam in 1995 which was run for 225 days in Kerala and earned almost 8 crores in 1995, making it a blockbuster movie.
He was awarded the Best Director Filmfare award for this movie. The movies Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kaathu (1986) and Iyer the Great (1990) earned him the Filmfare award for the Best Director category. His filmography includes Udayon (2005), Vellithira (2003), Yuvathurki (1996), Uncle Bun (1991), Changatham (1983), Aattuvanchi Ulanjappol (1984), Joothan (2021), and Olympian Anthony Adam (1999).
