Utpal V Nayanar is a well-known Indian cinematographer, and director from Kasaragod, Kerala. He was born on 27 December, 1959 in Kochi. Utpal started his film career as a camera associate. He has done the cinematography for many films like Manassill U Manjuthuli, Akasakhi Paravaal, Uriyatappaiyan for Mute Girl, Manikyan, Ee Patanil Bhootham, Holliers and many more. The first film he directed was 'Nilawariathe' starring Anumol, Santosh Keezhatoor and Bala as the lead characters.
The story of the film is based on some rituals of North Malabar. The film presents the story of the struggle against the caste system. The film is produced by Biju V Matthai and Kunjambu Nair Bethur under the banner of Tulunathan Films. Uthpal is well known for Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan (2002), Nilavariyathe (2017) and Independence (1999).
