Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy was born on August 20, 1946, in the Sidlaghatta kingdom of Mysore (currently known as Karnataka). Murthy is one of the few Indian billionaire businessmen and the co-founder of Infosys. Narayana Murthy completed his basic school education at the Sarada Vila Education Institute. He later completed his Bachelor of Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering, Mysore, and further completed his M.Tech. from the prestigious IIT Kanpur. N.R. Narayana Murthy’s family includes his wife, Sudha Murthy (Chairperson of Infosys Foundation). She is also an educationist, author, and philanthropist. Murthy has two kids: son Rohan Murthy and daughter Akshita Murthy. Akshita Murthy is married to the Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak.
N.R. Narayana Murthy started his first job as a research associate at IIM Ahmedabad and later as chief systems programmer at the same institute. Murthy started his own company, Softronics, but it failed after around two years. He later joined a Pune-based company, Patni Computer System. In the year 1981, Narayana Murthy founded his current company, Infosys, and played the role of CEO until 2002. He then became the chairman of the company and remained the executive chairman for a period of five years. N.R. Narayana Murthy is the author of a few books, including A Better India, Mera Business Mantra, etc. He has also been the recipient of around 15 awards, including Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan.
