Zakia Soman comes from Ahemdabad, the largest city in Gujarat, India. Zakia worked for the University of Gujarat as a Professor of Business Communication in English in her early years. Now, she is a writer and women's rights activist. She is the founding member of Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan— an organization of Muslim women in India. Also, she is the founder of the Centre for Peace Studies in the Action Aid Association. She has extensively written about social issues— peace, justice, secularism, minority rights, human rights, and rights for Muslim women.
She actively advocates for Muslim women and their rights and writes about the same. Her published articles are available in multiple parts of India. Furthermore, she is an associate of the South Asian Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE). Zakia was a petitioner at times of Haji Ali Darga and the Triple Talaq case, where she won both issues.
