She was born in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, where she completed her schooling from Queen Victoria’s School, and her graduation from Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (formerly Agra University).

She enrolled in the Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata, West Bengal for her post-graduation, following which she joined Peerless General Finance & Investment Company as its branch manager. However, Poornima’s interests lay in acting, for which she quit her job to join veteran actor Anupam Kher’s acting academy ‘Actor Prepares’. She learned acting at a late age in her life, and therefore, landed roles suitable to middle-aged characters. Soon after mastering the art, she cracked her way into the showbiz with a supporting role in Zee TV’s “ Qubool Hai Qubool Hai is an Indian TV opera soap regarding th >> Read More... ” (2012). Poonam played the role of protagonist Rahul’s fun-loving grandmother in the soap opera.

Her latest undertaking was Amazon Prime’s super hit web series “Made in Heaven” (2019), which revolves around the concept of ‘big fat Indian weddings’ while simultaneously tackling the social issues of homosexuality and extramarital affairs.
