Early Life: This dashing Punjabi actor was born in Chandigarh on 22nd February 1984. He was brought up in Jabalpur and also completed his education there. His father, Sita Ram Choudhary, was a Subedar Major in the Indian Army. Gurmeet was a struggling model for five years before landing his feet in the entertainment industry. His made his television debut in as a lead villain in Tamil serial ‘Mayavii’, which was the first 3D TV series on Indian Television. One day he went to Sagar Arts for giving an audition. The audition for Ramayana was being conducted simultaneously. Shakti Sagar of Sagar Arts spotted Gurmeet and was immensely pleased with his personality. Shakti Sagar went and told his father Anand Sagar that they had found their Ram. Gurmeet received a call from Sagar Arts a few days later and was told that he had been selected to play the role of Ram. Gurmeet was ecstatic and he says that his father got very emotional when he broke him this news.
Many people including his family members told Gurmeet that he would not be able to break away from Ram’s character and play a different character as many famous actors in the past who played roles of Krishna or Ram were never able to come out of that shell. Gurmeet proved everybody wrong by playing the role of angry business tycoon, Maan Singh Khurana, in the serial “Geet- Hui Sabse Parayi”. Gurmeet was overjoyed with the global adulation he received for playing the character of Maan. The secret to Gurmeet’s success is the fact that he lives the life of the character he plays on set. The otherwise humble and fun loving Gurmeet behaves like Maan Singh Khurana even in between shots. According to him, this helps him play his characters to perfection. He is ready to work much harder if it continues to entertain people. He says that his fans are his gods and he will keep entertaining them till his last breadth.
Gurmeet is a fitness freak. He practices martial arts and works out in the gym in order to stay fit. If he gets four hours of free time in a day, he would sleep for three fours and hit the gym for the remaining one hour. He avoids eating outside food and carries home-cooked food to sets. He says that there have also been days when he changed into his track pants after shoot and sprinted behind his car till home to complete his daily dose of exercise. His wife Debina held his hand at a time when he was nobody and he is always grateful to her for that. He loves his wife a lot and says he could do anything for her. The couple have a pet dog, Dexter, who is an integral part of their life. His friends are also very supportive and understand that he has a very busy schedule due to which he cannot spend much time with them. In spite of being such a big star, Gurmeet is extremely humble and down to earth. Once, a journalist forgot to press the record button while doing a telephonic interview with him. The actor gladly agreed to redo the entire interview. Gurmeet sets targets for himself for on next year on the last month of each year. This helps him stay focused on his career.
His TV soap fans were crestfallen after the actor declared that “Punar Vivah” was going to be his last television soap as he wanted to focus on films and reality shows. He successfully participated in various reality shows such as “
