Abdul Sattar Khan, commonly recognised as Ustad Tari Khan, was born in Lahore, Pakistan. He is a professional musician and a vocalist in addition to being a tabla player. Tari Khan is from the Punjab gharana and his mentor is Ustad Miyan Shaukat Hussain. The other one of the gharana is the conduits of tabla or the Punjab gharana. Even for the top musicians from all across the world, he is termed as one of the greatest tabla players. Tari Khan is a Pakistani. He belongs to a traditional Rababi family of Muslims employed in the royal Darbar Sahib, the main Sikh temple in Amritsar. His father was a classical singer. Only at the age of six, Tari happened to be so enthralled by the tabla playing of Ustad Miyan Shaukat Hussain Khan that for the next eight years, Tari Khan listened to Ustad Mian Shaukat Hussain Khan’s tabla on various occasions.
Eventually, when he was fourteen, he became a student of Ustad Miyan Shaukat Hussain Khan and, therefore, entered the field of tabla. Three years later, he would have his first central performance at the funeral of tabla master Miyan Qadir Baksh, where he played for over two hours.
