Pritam Bhartwan a folk singer from the Indian Himalayan state of Uttarakhand is the 2019 Padma Shri honorary by President Ram Nath Kovind, for his contribution to the field of traditional Pahari Jagar. Pritam Bhartwan belongs to the Ogi community. He was born on 15th August 1970 in the village of Sheela, Raipur, Uttarakhand. He did his Schooling in Uttarakhand. During his school days, he took active participation in cultural programs. Later, he started his singing career by singing in marriages With his uncle. He also plays instruments- Dhol, Damru, and Thakuli(Uttarakhand Instruments). 1995 turned out to be an important year for Pritam Bhartwan, as he got his first hit - Tes ba.
After this, He gave many hit albums-Surali Mero Jiyalikeo, Subari, Rosa, Amaravati, and Panchhi Maya. He has given 50 albums and more than 350 songs. He is known as Jagar Samrat. In 2021, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the Pritam Bhartwan Jagar Dhol Sagar International Academy at Nalapani Chowk aiming to preserve folk culture. He has received several awards from the state government of Uttarakhand- Uttarakhand Vibhushan from Bhagirathi Putra, Jagar Siromani, and Himalayan Ratna. He is visiting Professor at Cincinnati University and the University of Illinois University.
