Sukumar Ray

Sukumar Ray was born 30th October, 1887 in Calcutta. He died at a very early age. Sukumar Ray died when he was 35 years of age. He passed away on 10th September 1923 in Calcutta at his own residence. Sukumar Ray is a very popular poet, playwright and writer as well he used to write mainly for children. His language is Bengali therefore; he used to write in Bengali only. He is still one of the famous poets in Bangladesh and West Bengal even after his death and people remember him and praise his writings even today. Sukumar Ray’s son Satyajit Ray has made a documentary on him in the year 1987 which was an outstanding documentary. Sukumar Ray is born and brought up in a very talented family and gained a lot of qualities from his family only. Sukumar Ray has also started a Monday Club where people used to come and share their opinions and then he used to write a lot of poems about all the discussions that take place in Monday Club. His father Upendrakishore was a very close friend of the very popular poet Rabindranath Tagore and Sukumar was influenced a lot by him as Sukumar also became a very good friend of Rabindranath Tagore. His father loved to study a lot therefore, he studied blockmaking and he also began his business of blockmaking.

In the year 1906 Sukumar Ray completed his graduation in Chemistry and Physics from the University of Calcutta. Sukumar also went to England and there he was taught printing technology and photography. Later, he also gave lectures on the songs of his friend Rabindranath Tagore. In England also Sukumar Ray’s various articles got published.

After the death of Sukumar’s father he himself managed the business of his father and his brother also supported him a lot. Sukumar was also the chief of Brahmo Samaj, he has also written a poem which consists of the history of Brahmo Samaj named ‘Atiter Katha’. Some of his popular works are Abol tabol, Pagla Dashu which is written for kids and kids likes his writings very much. He has also written Bhasar Atyachar in the year 1915 and much more.
