K Shailendra is a playback singer who was associated with a singing reality show ‘ K For Kishore’, a singing contest held on Sony television channel in the year 2007-08. His real name is Sonu. But since there is another playback singer in the name of Sonu Nigam, the aspiring singer changed his name to Shailendra which was picked from his favorite Hindi film lyricist Shailendra. Since Sonu was singing for ‘K For Kishore’ contest, he added K before his name and got screen adaptation name as K. Shailendra. He was one of the outshine challengers in ‘K For Kishore’ program and won the final round but could not reach the top. Kishore is from a small town named Jhansi.

The show’s aim was to find out at least 12 participants who could match the style of singing of singer Kishore Kumar. He performed on ‘Hazaar Rahein Mud Ke Dekhi', one of Kishore’s best song pictured on Rajesh Khanna. Although legendary singer Kishore Kumar is no more with us, but new generation singers have never failed in experimenting their vocal by singing the legendary singers’ song in many television channel programs. Whether it is a reality show or even a show meant to pay a literary tribute to Kishore Kumar, every generation of singers finds Kishore Kumar as an inspiration.

He later got a break in some Bollywood films as a singer in the year 2012. He turned to singing some devotional songs for the private album. The show (K For Kishore’)had three panels of judges: Kishore Kumar’s son Amit Kumar, Bollywood composer Bappi Lahiri and singer Sudesh Bhonsle. In addition, the show had many Bollywood celebrities taking the seat as guest judges such as Kishore Kumar’s wife Leena Chandravarkar, actress Asha Parekh, superstar Rajesh Khanna and singers like Asha Bhosle, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Vinod Rathod and noted scriptwriter Javed Akhtar. The host of the show was singer Babul Supriyo and national award winning actress Rajeshwari Sachdev.

Hailing from Jodhpur, Jatin and Lalit imbibed musical skills mainly from their father Pandit Pratap Narayanan. They also learnt piano and guitar from Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma, who is famously called as Laxmikant-Pyarelal (Laxmikant is another musician). Late music director, Aadesh Srivastava is their brother-in-law. This duo kick started their profession in 1991 with the film Yaara Dildara. The film bombed at the box office, but the music was a great hit. Later, they gained recognition for their compositions in Khiladi and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. The song Pehla Nasha from the film Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander was in the lips of every Indian. Iconic R D Burman’s method of music composition had a great influence in this duo. Their works were much sought for during the late 90s. Their compositions include 473 songs. The lyricists with which Jatin and Lalit worked, include Anand Bakshi, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Javed Akthtar and Sameer. Playback singers Amit Kumar, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Abhijeet Bhattarcharya, Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Alka Yagnik, Anuradha Paudwal, Sadhana Sargam, Kavita Krishnamoorthy have all sung under their compositions. The music albums of this duo had various songs which were given music by other musical artists, in their final years as joint musicians. Though this was not appreciated by the duo, the directors and producers wanted it. Jatin-Lalit have the credit of being one of the pioneers to pen songs sung by Bollywood stars (For eg. Aati Kya Kandala (Aamir Khan)). Jaitn-Lalit had a brief stint with acting; they gave a short appearance in the movie Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. They appeared as judges for the famous musical show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. This duo is not party bird and is withdrawn. The duo had worked together for over 16 years and then they have separated ways stating personal issues. Jatin and Lalit have also composed music as separate musicians. Jatin and Lalit’s composition for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge had phenomenal success. Their compositions for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham also spelt magic.
