Feroz Nizami was a famous Pakistani film score composer, music director, and classical singer. He was one of the acclaimed singers in British India. His birth name was Ferozuddin Ahmad. He was born on 10 November 1910 in Lahore. He was born to a musical family, and he was inspired by many famous ghazal singers of India and Pakistan. Feroz was trained in classical music by the classical music teacher Abdul Wahid Khan of the Kirana gharana. He completed his graduation from Government Islamia College. After graduation, he worked as a singer at state-owned radio stations in Lahore, Delhi, and finally at Lakhnaw stations.
After some years, he moved to Bombay in search of opportunities in the Bollywood film industry to work as a music composer. His first music composition as a music director for the Pakistani movie Hamri Basti (1949) didn’t go well. It was a flop. Noor Jehan, after a four years gap, returned to the film industry with a musical film Chann Vey. The songs were composed by Feroz Nizami. All the songs were hit and, Feroz was highly appreciated for his works. His songs were loved by all people and, his name started flourishing in the Indian subcontinent. Again in 1952, he composed music for SAP for the movie, Dopatta. The movie is the highest-grossing movie during that period. His music composition was a mixture of classical, semi-classical, thumris, and western music. He used all these musical genres in his compositions. He has written many books on arts and music. Feroz Nizami passed away on November 15, 1975, in Lahore, Pakistan. His death anniversary is remembered every year on this day.
