Dattatreya Shankar Davjekar, famously known as Datta Davjekar, was an Indian music composer mainly associated with Marathi and Hindi movies. He was born on November 15, 1917, in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Datta was the son of a Tabla player with the theatre group Aryasubodhini, Baburao Davjekar. He had four children with his wife, Indumati, his sons are engineers, and one of his daughters, apart from being a doctor, is also a singer who has sung 5,000 songs in 14 different Indian languages. His second daughter is also a singer. He learned to play the tabla from his father. And he often performed at places like Lahore and Allahabad. Davjekar finally joined the film industry as an assistant to the music directors- Chitragupta and C. Ramchandra.

His first film as a music director was Vasant Joglekar's Aap Ki Sewa Mein(1946). He then began his career in the film Municipality(1941), followed by his second film- Sarkari Pahune (1942), which was a Marathi movie with a Hindi song in it. He composed the songs Tandav Nritya Kare and Naache Sangeet Natwar Bhekh Dhare with inspiration from the books Hindustani Sangeet Paddhati written by Professor Bhatkhande. Sukhaachi Sawali, Pahu Re Kitni Vaat, Rangalyaa Raatri Ashyaa, Sant Vahate Krishna Mai, Yashoda, Padchaaya, Pedgaonche Shahane, and Viasakh Vanwa. Davjekar's first Marathi film with Lata Mangeshkar was the film- Maazhe Baal(1943).

After that, he introduced her to Hindi films with the song- Paa Laagoo Kar Jori Re for the 1947 film- Aap Ki Sewa Mein. He introduced Sudha Malhotra with the bilingual film Prisoner of Golconda, directed by Premnath. His last movie, got released in 1992, was named Pahaate Punyechi. In his career of fifty-two years, he composed music in various languages for sixty films, documentaries, and twelve plays. Davjekar died of a heart attack on September 19, 2007, at his residence in Andheri, Mumbai.
