Dattatreya Dharmadhikari was a Hindi and Marathi Producer-Director born on December 2, 1913, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. Before working in various film studios in Kolhapur, he studied up to matriculation. Then he became a doorkeeper at Prabhat in 1934 and finally became assistant to Damle and Fattelal, V. Shantaram, and K. Narayan Kale. He left Prabhat in 1944 to work in Bombay, where he was an assistant to Raja Nene at Mohan Studios and Manik Studios. He worked as a joint director for his first film Shadi Se Pehle(1947), alongside Raja Nene's company. Datta is known for Daulat Ka Nasha(1982) ,Satichi Punyai(1980) and Dhakti Mehuni(1978).
He then launched his own production company- Alhaad Chitra, named after his son. Dattatreya's company revived the Marathi cinema by converting the social issue genre into successful emotional movies. He remade some of his blockbuster Marathi films into Hindi including,- Nanhe Munne(1952), Suhagan(1954), and Mahatma(1953). Dattatreya appeared as an actor in Sant Dnyaneshwar (1940). In his career, he has directed 11 Hindi and 21 Marathi films. He is also behind the big break of music composers- Vasant and Ramchandra. He then passed away in Pune, Maharashtra, India, on December 30, 1982.
