Arundhati Devi

Arundhati Devi, born to Bibhuticharan Guha and Thakurta, on 29th April 1924, was an Indian actress, writer, singer, and director from Barisal ( now Bangladesh) known for her works in the Bengali film industry. Her excellent work in the industry made her an evergreen actress and is still considered one of the greatest and finest talents in the Bengali film industry. She is an alumnus of Visva-Bharati University, where her Guru Sailajaranan Majumdar trained her in Rabindra Sangeet. All India Radio marks her debut as a Rabindra Sangeet singer in 1940.

With the film Mahaprasthaner Pathe( by Kartik Chattopadhyay), she made her debut as an actress in the Bengali film industry in the year 1952. She is best known for her work in the films Chalachal and Jatugriha. Her National Award-winning Bengali film called Bhagini Nivedita, directed by Bijoy Bose in 1962, earned her the BJFA Award for Best Actress in the year 1962.

She made her debut as a director with the film Chutti in 1967, which won her the National Film Award for best film Based on High Literary Work at the 14th National Film Awards The National Film Awards gets presented every year >> Read More... . As a director, her most notable work was Padi Pishir Barmi Baksho, which was based on a children’s novel by Leela Bakshi. In 1957, she got married to film director Tapan Sinha and had a son Anindya Sinha, who is a scientist. She breathed her last in the year 1990.
