Japani Toy (2018) is a Bengali Hoichoi original comedy-drama. The series is a social satire meant to showcase the not so secret lies surrounding the acceptance of sex, sexuality and sexual pleasure. Japani Toy is meant as a social message to unmask the truth behind the fake shame that society tags sexual wellness. The story starts with Joy, a Delhi based Bengali boy who is coerced to visit a brothel along with his friends. Unwillingly, Joy goes through with the visit, only to find that he gains an experience of a lifetime. He is thrown into jail and gets bailed out by the hostel-mess owner where he stays. After the fiasco, Joy is made to leave the mess and gets fired from his job. He leaves for his hometown in Kolkata, hoping to begin afresh. Once in Kolkata, he rents a place from the local councillor of his town, Gobordhon, intending to open up a new venture, a shop that is only meant for sex toys, ‘Sexy Siren’. The plot thickens as Joy has to fight to get his business registered while facing opposition from his fiancé, Kinkini and her family.

Amidst all the confusion, Gobordhon refuses to lease out the plot to Joy, branding his idea as demoralizing and harmful to respectable society. Though he propels the selling of liquor, he is opposed to Sexy Siren. However, Joy isn’t one to back down. He finally sets up his shop. In the meantime, he gains support from Kinkini, and hopes for acceptance from the others. Japani Toy is a mark on the positive acceptance of sexuality and health. It is suppressed and hushed by society, condemning embracing pleasure as immoral. A very well put comedy, this series has received much viewership, despite its noticeable lack of transition.
