Devanand Mahakud was born on 22nd December 1987 in Odissa, India. His degree is in the Masters of Economics. He came into the world of cinema and theatre in 2012. Along with that, he worked his way into writing and direction. His debut short film was, Satkaara, initiated by Yes! Bank. His theatre work started from Bangalore with Jagriti Theatre for an all-women theatre in the Deccan Herald Theatre Festival 2015.
He directed various theatre plays like Vijay Tendulkar's Kamala, The Pied Pipress, and Rabindranath Tagore's Kabuliwala. He also plays a part in The Solus Show, where he is the co-curator and has directed eight plays. His directorial debut was a short-film named, Koshish - It's a beautiful day. The film revolves around the cases of an increase in the divorce rate in India and is funded by Pocketfilms.
His second film named, Laapata, revolves around the idea of rejection, denial of the brutal rape survivors, and how the society changes around them by isolating them and casting as lower status. His third short film named, Piu Ka Pen, is about child anxiety, which is shown in many schools as a precaution against anxiety and to create awareness around it. He forms the masterpieces because he only works on scripts that he truly believes.
