Sandhya Shekar is one of the, if not the biggest, names in makeup-artistry in Bollywood. Sandhya was born in Mangalore, and since her childhood, she was very indulged into make-up and all things make-up. She would often use her mother’s make-up kits on herself and her friends. She completed her MBA from the International School of Business and Media and started working in the finance industry, notably in Yes Bank.
But, as for every great artist, she never felt excited to do a job that she never wanted to do. After a few years in the financial world, she eventually left her job and took advice from some of her friends as to how she should enter in the world of the make-up industry. She took a few courses in Mumbai, and later on, moved to London to study make-up in the prestigious London School of Beauty.
Upon her return, she started with bridal make-up and eventually got some offers for doing make-up work for models. In 2005, she got her major break as she was offered a job on MTV. Following her work on MTV for a promo, she got another good offer from Grazia magazine, and hence her journey in the entertainment world started. By 2009, Sandhya made quite a name for herself, and she then started working independently and got a lot of offers.
Sandhya has now became a household name in the industry. She has worked for some of the biggest magazines and publications of the world. Some of her work that she is credited for includes magazines like Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, GQ, and Marie Claire, just to name a few. As for celebrities, she has worked with Kangna Ranaut, ,
and many others on their commercials.
The highlight of her career came in 2018, when she did the make-up of Deepika Padukone for her Met Gala appearance. Met Gala is one of the biggest events in the world which features the biggest names from Hollywood and all around the world. Sandhya herself confessed in an interview that the Met Gala work she did was a dream come true as it is a dream for every make-up artist to work in such a prestigious event. For her hard work, Sandhya was awarded the Vogue Make-up artist of the year in 2018 and Elle artist of the year in 2016.
