An assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bansali, his debut film, Hawaizaada was an inspiration from the biography of Shivkar Bapuji Talpade. Mr. Puri’s film has a lot of symbols and symbols that are hard to read. When once asked about why he chose a historical film soon after the release and he’d commented that he didn’t actually preferred to debut a film that had common themes. He’s a ferocious history reader and one of his fellow historians brought the story of the scientist Shivkar Bapuji Talpade and he found it a great inspiring story to make a film. Like every first timer does, Mr. Puri also faced a lot of situations as he did Hawaizaada independently and he do believes he made his mentor (Sanjay Leela Bansali) proud. The relationship between Mithun Chakraborty and Ayushman Khuranna in the film is the reflection of Mr. Puri himself and his mentor Sanjay Leela Bansali. He studied filming in The Leela Bansali School of Filming. Vibhu Puri belongs to a group of young and innovative filmmakers from FTII, Pune. Mr. Puri is instinctive, perceptive and innovative. Not to mention, direct. Chabi Wala Pocket Watch, a short film made by him as a part of his diploma was nominated for the student Oscar in 2006 and best feature film award at IBDA's Awards held in Dubai. It was also nominated for the special Kodak Award at the 13th International Film School Festival Lodz (Poland). This short film made its way to the Student Filmmaker Category at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and won one more award. His first film brought out the comparison between art and materialism while his second film Chauras Chand explored the romanticism in the poems of a Punjabi poet Paash. He believed that Paash's poetry was much more romantic than revolutionary. Proving his talents as a filmmaker, he stepped forward to Bollywood films assisting Sanjay Leela Bansali in Saawariya, Guzaarish and Vishal Bhardwaj in The Blue Umbrella. Mr. Puri's film Hawaizaada is a tribute to the scientist who seemed to have manned the first ever aircraft in any civilization and also is a homage to the art and visual aesthetics of Sanjay Leela Bansali. The film was co-written by Vibhu Puri and Saurabh. R. Bhave transforms Talpade's dream of flying into an inspiration to everyone who dreams of flying free.
