Shimit Amin is a well-known director and is familar as the man behind the making of ‘ Chak De! India’, one of the most well-received films in the history of Bollywood. Shimit Amin was born in the capital city of Uganda, known as Kampala. Although Shimit was born in the city of Kampala, his family later moved to the United States of America, where they got settled in Florida. As he grew up in the city of Florida, Amin had a natural inclination towards filmmaking and wanted to pursue it from a very young age. But he opted to follow his parents’ advice and pursued graduation in mathematics.

After completing his graduation, Amin had fully dedicated himself to filming and worked hard to initiate and organize major film festivals of today such as ‘The Asian American Film Festival’ which was first conducted in the year 1991, in Jacksonville in Florida. After his work in North Florida, Amin shifted from there to Miami where he spent his time working on all sorts of independent film projects whether corporate, industrial or small scale. After his work in Miami, Amin headed to California City, where he worked quite a long time researching and making himself experienced under various role and aspects of filmmaking.

After having a considerate amount of experience and techniques to use, Amin finally made his entry into the Bollywood film industry. In the year 2003, when he was still in Los Angeles, he was given the job of editing the movie, ‘Bhoot’ by Ram Gopal Vermaa and later in 2004 he was offered to work for ‘Ab Tak Chhappan’. In the year 2006, he helmed direction for the film, ‘Chak De! India’ which was released in 2007, starring ‘ Shah Rukh Khan’. In 2009, he was also the man behind ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’ starring Ranbir Kapoor.

Srijit Mukherji is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and actor who works in Bengali cinema. He has acted in many critically acclaimed films and even directed many films that fetched him commercial success and even won appreciation in the film festivals. He was born on 23 September 1977. The actor was inclined to act and direct as his parents were theater actors. Even during his higher education days, the actor took a keen interest in directing. He was playwright and director of plays like ‘Checkmate’ where he had the privilege of working with Aparna Sen and Anjan Dutta.  Srijit came to prominence by writing ‘Feluda Ferot’ which was based on Satyajit Ray’s Feluda series. Srijit Mukherji has also written another inspiring play ‘The Other Side of History.' He then switched to making films such as 'Autograph' which had Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, Indraneil Sengupta and Nandana Sen. This film was a tribute to Satyajit Ray’s Nayak, which revolved around lives of a superstar, a youth director, and a theater actress. The film ‘Autograph’ was a commercial success movie.  In 2011, he directed ‘Baishe Srabon’ which had Prosenjit Chatterjee, Parambrata Chatterjee and Raima Sen playing the lead roles. Baishe Srabon was selected as an official entry in many international film festivals and received a huge box office response in Kolkata. The film was an official entry in London Indian film festival, Darpan Film Festival in Singapore and the Alliance Francaise Film Festival in Kolkata.  In 2012, Srijit made another interesting film ‘Hemlock Society’ that featured Parambrata Chatterjee, Koel Mallick and Soumitra Chatterjee in lead roles. The film was appreciated by critics. In 2014, he directed a film ‘jaatishwar’ that is considered as best works of Srijit Mukherji and Prosenjit Chatterjee. But it was for a film ‘Chotushkone’ (2014) which featured Aparna Sen, Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Parambrata Chatterjee the director received his first national award for best director. He directed ‘Nirbaak’ with Sushmita Sen, Jisshu Sengupta, and Anjan Dutta. It was Sushmita Sen’s debut film in the Bengali language. The film received a better critical response. His last film was Rajkahini in the year 2015. In this film, he had cast 11 female characters.  The director has also written lyrics for popular Bengali films such as Cross Connection, Le Chakka, and Josh and a non-film album of Usha Uthup.


Dharmesh Darshan

Dharmesh Darshan is a prominent Indian writer, producer, and director, who predominantly worked in the Bollywood film industry. He was born on May 16, 1972, in Mumbai, Maharashtra in India to film producer, Darshan Sabharwal and Sheela Bhatt (the sister of Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt). He penned and directed his first film entitled Lootere in 1993. During that time, he was one of the youngest film directors and the film turned out to be a box office nationwide. His next film is the Hindi drama romance film, Raja Hindustani, which stars Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor in the lead roles. This film became the biggest hit of the year and one of the blockbuster films during the 90s. He earned the Best Movie Award at the Filmfare; Best Film Award and the Best Director Award at the Star Screen Awards for his brilliant work in this film. After his mother had died, he took a hiatus for four years and returned in the year 2000 through the Bollywood action masala film, Mela and the Bollywood romantic drama film, Dhadkan, which stars Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Shilpa Shetty in the lead roles. The latter brought him several nominations in various award ceremonies and the cult status as one of the finest romantic filmmakers. In 2002, he directed the Bollywood romantic drama film, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, which stars Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan, who were dating during those times. However, the film did not do well at the box office. His next directorial venture was the musical romantic drama film, Bewafaa in 2005. Dharmesh attempts to do a completely different genre in his next film and adds pure comedy to his repertoire in the Bollywood romantic comedy film, Aap Ki Khatir in 2006. In 2013, it was reported that Dharmesh will be doing the sequel of Dhadkan. However, in the year 2014, Ratan Jain, the producer of the film, confirmed that ace director, Vikram Bhatt was roped in to helm the film’s sequel. He turned producer and made his production debut on the film, Bhanvraa in 2008. The film stars four television actors including Eijaz Khan, Sangeeta Ghosh, Manav Gohil and Shweta Salve. In the same year, he established his very own production house called Dharmesh Darshan Productions. He was honored with life membership of International Film and Television Club of Asian Academy of Film & Television. Dharmesh is also a keynote speaker on several media platforms that involves cinema and marketing.
