Paul Zils is a German Indian filmmaker and director. He was born on June 18, 1915 in Wuppertal, German Empire. Paul Zils played a significant role in the development of the Indian filmmaking and documentary industry. Initially, before leaving Germany, he worked for UFA. However, during the Second World War, he was interned in a camp in Bali and then he was brought in India. During the year of 1946, he started working as an Indian director. Later on, he worked for national and international institutes and made lots of incredible movies. Paul Zils has worked on various topics in his films and documentaries like Life in India, Folk Dance Burmah-Shell Oil etc. After a while, Paul Zils successfully established an independent production company named Art Films of India. In the year of 1950, he became a naturalised citizen of India and for the time being, lived in Bombay.
Paul Zils has directed various movies, including For a Better Tomorrow (1975), Time and the Nation (1970), Meditation (1968), Glaube und Leben der Hindus (1964), Alles in Fluß (Kurz-Dokumentar Film) (1963), Buddhismus in Ceylon (1963), Jalagon--Ein Dorf Im Ikken Indien (1961), The Vanishing Tribe (1958), Oraons of Bihar (1958), India's Struggle for National Shipping (1947) and Bombay the Story of Seven Isles (1945). Alongside, he has worked in the direction of TV series and short films like TV Mini-Series Asiatische Religionen (1965), Short film The Vanishing Tribe (1959), Martial Dances of Malabar, New Life of a Displaced Person (1957), Maa, the Story of an Unmarried Person (1957), Fifty Miles from Poona, The School (1956), The Ripeninig Seed (1956), Agriculture, Ujala (1954), Family in Bangalore, Shabash etc.
