Neeraj Ghaywan is a director who was born and raised in Hyderabad. He finished his engineering and went on to pursue MBA. He was always interested in watching movie but his interest towards filmmaking grew after listening to Samar Nakhate’s lecture who was a professor of ‘FTII- Film& Technology Institute’, India. After finishing his MBA, he was placed in Tech Mahindra. From there, he moved to the marketing department of Hindustan Times. During his time there, he started following “Passion for Cinema” blog and writing forum posts here.
This is where he met other like-minded people like Anurag Kashyap and now he is the editor of the blog. Since he liked the movies made by UTV Pictures, he applied for the post of UTV Spot boy. But he ended up being recruited into the digital marketing team of UTV New Media. Though the job offered him good money, he felt like being burnt out and that the job offered him no satisfaction. After consulting with Anurag Kashyap, he quit his job and took a complete leap into the world of filmmaking and joined Anurag Kashyap and spent the next 2 and a half years working on “ Gangs of Wasseypur”.
Neeraj stated that “Gangs of Wasseypur” has helped him learn a lot about direction. Neeraj directed Shorts in 2013 and “ Masaan” in 2015. He also worked as a second unit director for Anurag Kashyap’s “Ugly(2013)”. “Masaan” won two awards “FIPRESCI” (International Federation of Film Critics) and “Promising Future award” at the ‘Sundance Film Festival’ held at Cannes,France. He also directed short films like “Shor” in 2011 and “Epiphany” in 2013. Neeraj’s inspirations include Satyajit Ray, Shekhar Kapoor, Michael Haneke and Dardenne brothers.
Neeraj has acknowledged Anurag Kashyap as his mentor when it comes to filmmaking. He said that the road from quitting his corporate job 2 years ago and winning 2 international awards was only possible due to Anurag Kashyap. Neeraj after this grand success is on cloud nine and we can’t wait for the release of “Masaan” on 24th July in India.

The movie did well at the Box-Office. Apart from Punjabi and Telugu movies, Saurabh also worked on some Gujarati movies. His most successful Gujarati project was the movie Dholi Taro Dhol Baaje. He also worked on Marathi and Tamil movies. One of his notable work in the Marathi Film Industry was the movie Samaantar. Saurabh started his career as a director in the year 2013 with the movie Mickey Virus. The movie was a comedy thriller and was produced by DAR Motion Pictures. The movie received mixed reviews from the critics but did good business because of its excellent promotion. After that, Saurabh directed his second movie in 2015. The movie was produced by Nitika Thakur. The movie was a huge failure and didn’t get recognized. Saurabh has worked as an Operating Officer in Serendipity Films. He also worked for the Hinduja Group. He was the chief marketing officer at BIG Pictures. He was even appointed as the Vice President of Marketing in PVR Cinemas. He currently works as a director.

Neeraj is an actor, trainer and director. He was trained in the styles of traditional martial arts. He is also a trained dancer. He has participated in various workshops conducted by the National School of Drama located in Delhi, Andrei Curti of France, Andrew Tsubaki, Bill Evaans and various others. He acted as ‘Banquo’, in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as ‘Hamlet’ written by ‘Tom Stoppard’ ,as ‘Sganarelle’ by ‘Moliere’, as ‘Harlequin’ in “The World of Harlequin” by ‘Marivaux’, as ‘Gurov’ in “The Lady with the Dog” by ‘Anton Chekhov’, as ‘King Herod’ in Oscar Wilde’s “Herod the Great”, as George Tesman in “HeddaGabler” by Ibsen amongst various others. He was also selected to play the lead in a production, which was directed by ‘Jean Jacques Bellot’ from France. He was also selected by ‘Rene Migliaccio’ from USA to play a major role in a Marivaux play, which was performed in Mumbai. He played the lead role in the 1997 movie “The Last Vision” which was directed by Mr.A.K.Bir, who won a national award in 1998 and also made it to the competition section of Cairo, Singapore and Delhi Film Festivals. Neeraj Kabi has played a few movie roles as well, which include “Ship of Theseus” directed by Anand Gandhi, “Monsoon Shootout” directed by Dibakar Banerjee and is now playing the role of the Antagonist in “Detective Byomkesh Bakshy”.
