Manjul Sinha is a director of many popular TV series that was showcased in Doordarshan when DD was at its nascent stage. Being a student of Pune Film and Television Institute (FTII), he took up his challenging task to evolve as a director. His family was earlier interested only in film distribution of Bhojpuri films in Patna that groomed him well in film circuit. Manjul Sinha shifted his base to Mumbai to eke out a living as a film director. But initially, he only got chances to direct many television advertisements.
It was later that he got his first break to direct a TV series ‘
Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi
’. Thus, he directed many popular TV series for Doordarshan such as, ‘Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke’, ‘
’, and Siddharth Kak's ‘
’. Before joining films, he was in the dilemma whether to make his career in films or not. But when he could not pass the fitness test for National Defence Academy (NDA), he went to the city of Pune to do a three-year course in filmmaking. He received a scholarship to join FTII. Much against his parents’ wishes who wanted Sinha to become an IAS officer, he made his way to Pune film institute. In this institute, he made a documentary on Spastics Society which won him the national award as well. His documentary caught an attention of filmmaker
, who was Sinha’s faculty too.
Through his recommendation, he got a chance to work for an ad agency ‘Ulka’. But Sinha was not happy directing commercials for TV but even then his experience in ad agencies helped him to bag a TV project. Thus, he directed the serial ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ for DD in 1984. After his break as an independent director, Sinha had once felt that one must have good contacts, lots of luck and even win self-confidence through hard work to climb the ladder of success in the industry. After gaining his popularity in Doordarshan, he shifted his priority for other channels too. It was then he got chances to direct ‘Jee Saheb’, ‘
’ and ‘Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan’ for the Zee TV.
Manjul Sinha is indeed a veteran TV director who also had displayed his talents by directing few TV series for Sahara One Channel too.
