Maneesh Sharma is a Bollywood Director and Storywriter for movies. He became famous when he made the Hindi movie “” in the year 2010, which went on to earn him the award for the Best Debut Director at the Filmfare Awards, the very next year of this category’s inauguration, and the Star Guild Award, both of 2011. The movie has fetched him many other nominations as well. Other than getting nominated for the Best Director at the Filmfare Awards, he was nominated for the 2011 International Indian Film Academy Popular Award that was presented to the Best Director, and also for the Award for Technical Excellence in the Best Story category, in the same Academy Awards. Manish Sharma was born in New Delhi, lived in the Pitampura neighborhood and has done his schooling at R.K.Puram DPS. After high school, he went on to pursue his degree in English Literature at the Malkaganj area’s Hans Raj College, which is under the Delhi University. Even during his college days, Maneesh Sharma was active with theatre groups and was part of a local music & dance troupe as well. He also has made a short movie at that time. After his college studies, he went to the USA in pursuit of a suitable training in filmmaking at the California Institute of Arts, also called as ‘CalArts’, situated in Valencia, near Los Angeles in the State of California. There, in the year 2004, he made a short film, titled as, “Trona”, as an Assistant to the Director, and also doing the role of the thief, as part of his training. He has joined Yash Raj Films after coming from the USA, and worked in the capacity of Associate as well as Assistant Director in several productions, notable among which are; As Assistant Director in the 2006 directed starrer, “” - As Associate Director in the 2007 starrer that was directed by “” - And as Assistant Director in the 2008 starrer, ’s “”. With Ranveer Singh and the doll-like beauty with talent in the lead, he has directed the 2010 movie, “Wedding Planners”, and the 2011 movie, “Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl”. Then in 2013, he gave the movie, “” as its Director, featuring for the second time in his movies, . At the Gala Presentation, the segment where such films are grouped at the Toronto International Film Festival of the year 2013, this movie was screened much to the thrill of the audience. The 2010 movie “Wedding Planners” and the 2014 movie, “” are the films for which he has written the stories. The Sharat Katariya directed, 2015 movie, “Dum Laga ke Haisha” was his first movie as a Producer, and he has produced it along with Aditya Chopra. His upcoming movie, probably in the year 2016, would be the Shah Rukh Khan and ‘Ileana - the southern damsel’ starrer, “”.
