Jerry Pinto

Written By - Team Nettv4u

Jerry Pinto is a prolific Indian novelist, journalist, critic, and a poet. He has made significant contributions to English literature, including both fiction and non-fiction novels, and is quite away from thrills of life. He was born in 1966 in Goa. He lives in Mumbai. He is appreciated for his wondrous work. His most critically acclaimed book is ‘Em and the Big Hoom’ (2012). The book mainly focused on an inappropriate treatment of mental illness in the family. The novel won several awards among which was the most prominent one in 2016, Sahitya Akademi Award as well as the Windham-Campbell Prize for Fiction. A few of his incredible novels include Murder in Mahim published in 2017 and The Education of Yuri. Yet other interesting works include Helen: An H Bomb and Its Making, a biographical writing for which the best book award was accorded. This biography is about Bollywood diva Helen Richardson Khan.

His works also include excellent poetry books like Asylum and Other Poems (2003) and gathered books such as Confronting Love. My Daddy and the Well, Anya and Her Baby Brother are some of his children’s books which have received recognition. He is excellent not only as a writer but also as a translator. He has translated influential works from Marathi to English, including Baluta, an autobiography by Daya Pawar Bio coming soon... >> Read More... . His translations show depth and cultural insight. Besides writing, he is very active regarding social causes, especially child rights-related issues. He is a board member of organizations like MelJol. He teaches journalism at the Sophia Institute of Social Communications Media in Mumbai. Much of this is because Pinto's work has fetched him many accolades, including Sahitya Akademi Award in 2016 for Em and the Big Hoom, Windham-Campbell Prize in 2016, and more than one Crossword Book Award and a Hindu Prize. Writing full of empathetic tone, biting humor, and explorations of complex human emotions running, unfortunately or perhaps fortunately often associated with lousy familial relationships and other social ills. Not only has Jerry Pinto been a loud voice in the literary landscape of modern India, but he is, to this day, touching hearts from back India to all corners of the world.
