Ananya Jahanara Kabir is an Indian Scholar. She belongs to the Kabir Dynasty of Calcutta, which makes her directly connected to Humayun Kabir and Chief Justice Altamas Kabir. Ananya studied literature at Cambridge University and the University of Calcutta. She is proficient in English, Bengali, Hindi, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and various Creoles. She is an English Literature professor at King's College, London. She has also taught at Cambridge University and the University of Leeds. Professor Kabir teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students about the history of Colonialism, Neo-Liberal Politics, Slavery, Post-colonialism, etc. Her teachings are always research related because of which her teachings shift depending on her current research.
She has supervised many Ph.D. for unconventional research plans like cross languages, genres, periods, and theoretical orthodoxies. She has written many research papers and published several books. She is the author of Territory of Desire(2008), Partition's Post Amnesia, and Modern South Asia (2013). Her research interests include creolization, the Relationship between the written text and non-textual cultural production(dance, music, visual art, film), Medievalism, Postcolonialism, South Asian Literary and Cultural Production related to the Partition of India and Kashmir, and Memory Studies.
She has worked on Modern Moves(2013-18), funded by the European Research Council, which investigates African-Heritage social dance and music. She has won many AHRC Awards between 2004 and 2013. She has won the Infosys Humanities Prize for her work in Humanities and the Humbdolt Prize in 2018.
