Piyush Pandey is an editor and actor of Indian origin. Piyush Pandey was born in Jaipur in 1955 into a family of eight siblings. His father was employed at the Rajasthan state cooperative bank, while he himself played the Ranji Trophy for the state of Rajasthan before pursuing a career as a tea taster. Piyush received his education at St. Xavier's School in Jaipur and went on to obtain an MA from St. Stephen's College in Delhi. In 1982, he began his career in the advertising industry as a client servicing executive at Ogilvy. His first foray into ad creation was the Sunlight Detergent print ad.
After six years, he moved to the creative department where he produced several noteworthy ads, including those for Cadbury, Fevicol, Luna moped, and Asian Paints. In 1994, he was nominated to the board of directors. Additionally, he served as the first jury President from Asia for the Cannes Lions Festival. Over his 40-year tenure at Ogilvy & Mather, the agency became the largest advertising firm in India, and Ogilvy India is widely regarded as one of the most innovative offices in the Ogilvy network. In 2006, he was nominated to the Ogilvy Worldwide board, and he currently leads creative executives from around the globe at the Berlin School of Creative Leadership. The Government of India also honored him with the Padma Shri in 2016. He was voted Asia's Creative Person of the Year at the Media Asia Awards 2002 and is the only Indian to win double gold at Cannes. The Economic Times named him the most powerful man in the world of advertising in India for eight consecutive years. In 2000, his commercial for Fevikwik was voted the advertisement of the century, and his contribution for Cadbury was voted the campaign of the century by the Ad Club of Mumbai. He also won a triple grand prize at the London International Awards, and O&M India won 25 lions at Cannes during his tenure.
Piyush Pandey was honored with a lifetime achievement award in 2010 from the Advertising Agencies Association of India and won a Clio Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. In 2004, he also went on to become the first Asian jury president for outdoor and press and film at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. In June 2018, he and his brother Prasoon Pandey won the Lions lifetime achievement award of St Mark at Cannes Advertising Festival, in France. Recently, he was promoted to the worldwide chief creative officer position at WPP agency Ogilvy, filling a key position that had been vacant since the exit of the previous creative head in July. Piyush Pandey is currently married to Nita Pandey.
