Derek Jacobi is a stage actor, director, and TV actor. Some of his famous roles are from the stage shows like Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, Oedipus the King and Hamlet. Derek has received the Primetime Emmy Award, Laurence Olivier Award, and BAFTA to his credit. He had a great career in television; Jacob is famous for his role in Claudius, Cadfael, and Vicious. Derek has appeared in many films like Dead Again, Henry V, Cinderella, and many more. He has been honoured with the Knighthood and was appointed to the post of Knight First Class of the Order of the Dannebrog.

Sir Derek George Jacobi was born on 22 October 1983 in Leytonstone, London, England. His parents are Daisy Gertrude and Alfred George Jacobi. Daisy Gertrude worked as a secretary in Drapery Store, and his father ran a sweet shop. He belonged to a working-class family. In his childhood, Derek went to Leyton Sixth Form College and later got a scholarship for the University of Cambridge and studied history at St. John’s College. Derek got his first break by Laurence Olivier and made him the founding members of National Theatre, and he acted for the first time Laertes in Hamlet for the opening ceremony of the National Theatre in 1963.

He appeared as Cassio for Othello and later as Andrei in Three Sisters in 1970. For about eight years, he continued acting for the theatre and after that went for something different. Derek got fame with the BBC Entertainment series I, Claudius. In 1978, Jacobi performed in the Shakespeare production of BBC Television. It was Richard II. Derek later made his Broadway debut with The Suicide in 1980 and appeared in a leading role in BBC’s Hamlet. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. Derek then did many Television Serials in Little Dorrit, based on the novel of Charles Dicken in 1987, Mr. Pye and The Tenth Man. He made his directing debut after acting in several plays, Broadways, and TV shows, with the Renaissance Theatre Company’s Hamlet and became joint artist director at Chichester Festival Theatre and in 1990 Derek made a 13 episode TV adaptation Cadfael of Ellis Peters and appeared in movies like Dead Again, Hamlet, Love is The Devil, Gladiator, and The Revenger’s Tragedy. Derek was involved in the webcast series Scream of the Shalka based on the sci-fi series Doctor Who, he lent his voice for the Doctor and later in an audio series with the name of Deadline.

Derek continued acting in the shows like Don Carlos, The Long Firm, Nanny Mc Phee, Pinochet in Suburbia, A Voyage Round My Father. His role as Malvolio in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night made him win the Laurence Olivier Award in 2009 for the second time, and before this, he got one for Cyrano de Bergerac. Derek got acknowledged for his role in Much Ado About Nothing and received a Tony Award for it in 1984. He received a Primetime Emmy Award for his role in The Tenth Man in 1988, and there are many other awards to his credit and many memorable performances he has done.
