Ranen Roy Chowdhury was a music lover who had always tried to cover the situation of the Bengal partition through his compositions. He was an inspirational personality who had attempted to put forward the gesture of loving authentic Bengali music and harmony. He was a person who was born with a unique individuality and sensitivity. Ranendra Ballav Roy Chowdhury is the birth name of Ranen Roychowdhury. He was born in 1925 in Tantikona village. The village is situated in the Chhatok region of Sylhet. His family was well-developed and prosperous. Ranen's older critter had a great interest in painting. Moreover, Ranen and his brother spent the first half of their life in Sylhet, but later in 1950, after a petition, they, along with their family, shifted to Calcutta.
Ranen's friends were communists who insisted Ranen take part in the political party that spoke about the rights of the people. Moreover, he was also an active member of the Indian People’s Theatre Association. Gradually, Ranen learned a lot of traditional songs from the bauls and fakirs. On the other hand, in Sylhet, he also acquired knowledge about the authentic pieces from the ‘sadhak’ singers whom he came across at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal. After Ritwik Ghattak left the world, Ranen Roy Chowdhury paid a hearty tribute to him and called him ‘Je Manushtir Naam Ritwik Ghatak.’ This song has been assimilated in "Ranen Roy Chowdhuryr Gaaner Bhuban." Ranen took his last breath in 1985.
