Pratul Mukhopadhyay

Pratul Mukhopadhyay is a Bengali singer and songwriter. He was born in 1942 in Barisal, Bengal Province (now in Bangladesh). He was the chief of the statistics department of the United Bank of India until he retired. He rendered a poem by the renowned poet Mangalacharan Chattopadhyay into a song when he was twelve. He has also given music to 24 poems by Bengali poet Birendra Chattopadhyay. Mukto Hobe Priyo Matribhoomi Sedin Sudur Noy Aar, one of his first songs, was based on a speech by Charu Mazumdar and included music inspired by a Chinese marching song. He released his first solo album, Jete Hobe, in 1994.

His other albums are Ootho Hey (1994), Kuttus Kottas (1997), Swapner Pheriwala (2000), Tomake Dekhchhilam (2000), Swapanpurey (2002). He has written and sung the famous Bengali songs Ami Banglay Gan Gai and Dinga Bhashao Sagore.Few of his other popular songs are Charlie Chaplin Charles Chaplin popularly known as Charlie Chaplin >> Read More... , Dinga Bhasha, and Alu Becho. He has also done playback singing for the Bengali film Gosaibaganer Bhoot. Songs of Pratul Mukhopadhyay is a documentary on him produced by Anweshan and directed by Manas Bhowmik.
