Prahlad Brahmachari is one of the most renowned Bengali singers. He was born in 1940 in the small district of Khulna, now in East Pakistan. He began his career in music and singing under the guidance of his guru, Phatik Adhikari. He then started doing kirtans under the direction of Ratneswar Mukho-padhyaya and learned classical music under Swagata Chakraverty.
Prahlad Brahmachari visited Bulgaria many times and attended the Youth Festival in Sophia in 1968. He stood in the International Folksong competition, where he won a gold medal and earned a certificate of merit. Prahlad Brahmachari visited the U.S.A. many times in 1969 and had a return journey visiting all the countries of the Far East.Â
Wherever he goes, he gives performances of Bengali folk songs and dances. He is one on the list of All-India artists and has appeared in many Bengali films like Hangsaraj (1976). The list of his songs includes Premik Na Hoile Prem Koiro Na, Emon Bhaber Nadite Soire, Aat Kuthuri-Noi Darja, Nimer Dotara Tui More, Ajgubi Ek Katha Shune, Kanya Haste Kadamber Phool, etc. even today, his songs are being broadcasted on All India Radio.
