Nirmala Mishra was an Indian singer born on 21 October 1938 and passed away on 31 July 2022. She was the daughter of Pandit Mohinimohana Mishra and Bhabani Devi when she was born in Majilpur. She was raised in a musical setting. Both her father, Pandit Mohinimohan Mishra, and her older brother, Murarimohan Mishra, were well-known musicians. Her surname was Bandopadhyay (Banarjee). Later, the title of "Mishra" was bestowed upon her family. She has recorded songs predominantly in Odia and Bengali languages. She was given the opportunity to perform a song for the first time in 1960 in the Odia film Shri Lokanath by music director Balakrushna Das. She has performed in a number of well-known Odia films, including Adina Megha, Kaa, Malajanha, Abhinetree, and Stree.
She also became famous for her Bengali songs Eamon Ekta Jhinuk Bolo to Arshi, and Eai Banglar Mati Te. She also released a number of solo albums. The Sangeet Sudhakar Balakrushna Das Award was given to Mishra in recognition of her lifetime contribution to Odia music. She received the Sangeet Samman, Sangeet Mahasamman, and Bangabhibhushan honors from the West Bengal government.
