Asit Bandopadhyay was born in 1936. He was a dramatist, playwright, screenwriter and an actor in Bengali film industry. Asit Bandopadhyay attended the Maharaja Manindra Chandra college in Kolkata to get his bachelor’s degree. Asit Bandopadhyay co-founded the Nandikar on June 29, 1960, with Ajitesh Banerjee and some of his friends. Asit Bandopadhyay was the secretary for it. He was the writer and director of Jatra Natak. Asit Bandopadhyay received Best director award in 1979 and 1999.
