Pandit Debojyoti Bose is a Classical Indian instrument player. Hailing from Kolkata, West Bengal, he was born on 20 December 1962. His interest in Hindustani music traces back to his family, which had famous table players, Sri Akshay Kumar Bose (great-grandfather), Pandit Biswanath Bose (father) and his mother Smt. Bharati Bose was a Sitar player.During his initial days, Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan trained him for over 25 years.
Bose’s inclination is towards Sarod. He is known as one of the fine artists of Senia Bangash Gharana of Sarod. Bose directed the National Youth Orchestra composed by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. In 2011, he performed in the National Festival of Indian Classical Music and Dance in memory of Panndit Bhimsen Joshi. Bose performed notably at the Dover Lane Music Conference (Kolkata), Harballav Festival (Jallundher), Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh & Dhrupad Mela (Varanasi) and Sangeet Natak Academy Concert (Chennai & Hyderabad).
He has performed extensively in the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Asia. He was a delegate from India to the Festival of India (2010). He was also a part of Doordarshan television serials, such as Talash, Mohini, and Pratighat. His award laureates include Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan scholarship (1981) from Sriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra. In 2002, he was granted a Citizen of Honour from Brown University. Nose is now an active member of the Trinamool Congress.Â
