Rituparno Ghosh(1963-2013) was a profound actor, director, writer, and lyricist in the Bengali FIlm Industry. He was born in Kolkata to a Bengali Hindu family on 31 August 1963. Sunil Ghosh, father of Rituparno Ghosh was a painter and a documentary film maker. He attended South Point School in and earned an Economics degree from Jadhavpur University, Kolkata. He worked as a creative artist in an advertising agency, Response India. He became famous in Kolkata for his effective slogans and appealing one liners. He earned fame with his most notable ad campaigns, ‘Sharad Samman' and ‘Bongo JibonerAngo' for antiseptic ointment, Boroline and mango drink, Frooti respectively.

In the year 1990, he made a documentary "VandeMatram" on Doordarshan when his agency, "Tele Response" and was commissioned for it. Later, he shifted to film making and came up with his debut movie, "Hirer Angti" in the year 1992. After two years, he released another film "Unishe April" which bagged him a National Award for Best Feature film. After five years, "Dahan", a movie based on a real story, was awarded for Best Screenplay. The same year, another feature film, "Asukh" was awarded national award for the Best feature Film in Bengali. In the year 2000, a super hit movie, "Bariwali" starring KirronKher, earned her recognition when she was awarded national award for Best Actress.

He was awarded a National Award for Best Director for the movie, "Utsab". After two years, he released a movie, “Titli” starring MithunChokraborty, Konkona Sen and Aparna Sen. Rituparno Ghosh has also worked with the beautiful actress, Aishwarya Rai in the movie, "Chokher Bali", which was an adaptation of the novel written by Rabindranath Tagore.

The movie was acknowledged at many International Film festivals and also earned a national award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. Rituparno Ghosh became more famous when he started hosting celebrity chat shows like "EbongRituparno" and "Ghosh & Co." on Star Jalsha. He was also the scriptwriter of the famous show, "GaanerOpare". Rituparno Ghosh became open about his sexuality when he played a transgender in the movie "ArektiPremerGolpo". He even went for breast implants to play that character. He was a famous LGBT icon in India. Ghosh was found dead in his apartment in Kolkata. He suffered a massive heart attack which ultimately led him to death at a young age of 49.
