1. Mahathi
Mahathi is an Indian musician, born on 10 February 1985 in Chennai into a family of musicians. While her father, Thiruvaiyaru Sekar, is a former Carnatic vocalist, her mother, Vasanthi Sekhar, was a flute player. She completed her schooling from Cochin and graduated from Meenakshi College, Kodambakkam with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. With music running in her blood, it was no surprise to discover a child prodigy in Mahathi. When she was just one and a half-year-old, she started identifying the Carnatic Ragas, and by the time she was three, she could identify seventy-five of them. She got her initial training from her parents, as well as from Deepa and Gayatri at Thiruvananthapuram. Further, Sri O S Thiagarajan, Padmabhushan Chevalier Dr.M. Balamuralikrishna, and Padmabhushan T. N. Seshagopalan provided for her formal training. The talented prodigy was not kept hidden and in 1994, she received a scholarship from the Central government. Mahathi began performing at concerts when she was just ten.

Sanchita Shetty was born in the Bangalore district of Karnataka, India. She has been an active figure in the film industry ever since her appearance on screen in the 2006 movie- ‘Mungaru Male’ which was in Kannada. Her ambition was not limited to a film career in Karnataka alone and for widening her fame and reach, she takes roles in most of the South Indian languages such as Kannada, Tamil and Telugu. Initially, she played only supporting roles in her movies, but after her performance in three consecutive films in Kannada as supporting roles, she gets the opportunity to act in Tamil movies, and her biggest break came in the year 2010 when she is presented the opportunity to act opposite the well-acclaimed Tamil actor Jayam Ravi in ‘Thillalangadi’.

Ramya NSK, the versatile awarded playback singer of ‘Kollywood’ is a name known to almost everyone interested in the said entertainment industry. The granddaughter of incredible Tamil identities ‘N.S. Krishnan’ and ‘K.R. Ramasamy’, Ramya has lived up to her family name in every song she has sung till date. While Krishnan is Ramya’s paternal grandfather, Ramasamy is from her maternal side. Ramya was conceived and raised in Chennai and is a trained Carnatic singer. After having completed her training in Carnatic, she ventured into western music domain too and success has been her ally since then.

Films came to Lakshmi Menon at an age when she hadn’t started thinking about her career. Impressed by her dance show on TV, Malayalam director Vinayan offered her a role in his film. She got her break in Raghuvinte Swantham Raziya when she was in her eighth class. Soon, she played a lead role with Vineeth in Ideal Couple, directed by Ali Akbar. It was a year later when she got her first break in Tamil movie Kumki (2012) that made her lucky mascot in Kollywod. When she was running high on a success wave with Kumki, her next film, Naan Sigappu Manithan (2012) with Vishal made her as the rising star in Kollywood. Â

Today, she is known as the girl with the Midas touch, whose very presence in any film guarantees a hit. At age of 19, she has attained the dizzy heights of stardom as her successful films Sundarapandian, Pandiya Naadu, Naan Sigappu Manithan, Manjapai and Jigarthanda proves it so. She is also acting with Ajith as his sister in Thala 56 which is due for release in Diwali. It is reported that she has sung a song in an upcoming film 'Filter Coffee' directed by Raghav with debutant Rama Subramanian as the music director. This star was born to a Dubai-based artist Ramakrishnan and dance teacher Usha Menon. She started dance at her age of 3 and learnt Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Kathakali. As a teenage girl, she also took her modeling career seriously and appeared in TV advertisements (Fair and Lovely& Josco jeweler). She has passed her plus two exam and she has joined a popular institute in Bengaluru to learn Fashion design technology where she will have to attend 100 days of regular classes.Â

Uthara Unnikrishnan is the daughter of Indian playback singer Unni Krishnan. She came to spotlight for winning National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2015 for her rendition of the song ‘Azhagu’ from Tamil film ‘Saivam’. She is the first Indian playback singer to record a song at the age of just seven and received the award when she was ten. She is thus the young recipient to get such honor in Indian playback singing.Â

Sanghavi is a model turned actress who is still active in the film and media industry. She was born in the Mysore district of Karnataka. Her father was a professor at one of the medical colleges in Mysore and during her childhood, she had aspired to pursue such a career herself, before getting attracted to modeling after which she turned to movies. Her film career started in about 1993 with her first Tamil film being ‘Amaravathi’ released in 1993 in which she played the female lead, opposite to the famous actor Ajith Kumar.

A.R. Reihana is popularly known as Reihana. She is the sister of an epic star, music composer, singer and the only Oscar-winning Indian so far, A.R Rahman. Reihana herself is a singer and music composer and has sung and composed songs for many films, but the recent one in which she has sung is Kochadaiiyaan in 2014. She is an admirable personality and very sweet at heart and Brand Ambassador to Raindropss, a social foundation for youth.

Shruti Hassan is well known for her singing and acting skills in kollywood, tollywood and bollywood.She entered into films as a child artist in her father’s film HEY RAM. At the age of 23 she did her first film LUCK in bollywood. She got the interest in music and finally travelled to USA to learn music. She did many films both in Tamil and Telugu and received positive reviews for her act. Shruti Hassan sang her first song at the age of six for her father’s film named Thevar Magan.She even composed music for a Tamil movie Unnaipol Oruvan.In Telugu she did many box office hit films and won Film fare award for the film Race Gurram. She even won SIIMA awards for stylish actress of South Indian Cinema. Shruti wrote lyrics for the film Hisss starring Mallika Sherawat. In Tamil she did few films 7aum Arivu, 3 and Poojai. She won Edison Awards for best introduced music director in the year 2010 .She is also a brand ambassador for Emami Navaratna Cool Talc. Her upcoming projects are in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. In Tamil her upcoming project is Thala 56.

Kovai Sarala is an actress who acted in more than 750 films in her career spanning for over 25 years. She has acted in Tamil (even Telugu films) and had joined films as she was the sole bread earner in the family. Many feel that she filled the void left by Manorma and she is the only actress who had stepped in her( Manorama) shoes. In this film industry, Sarala could carry scenes on her own merits. There was a time; she would be seen in every successful movie (just as Manorama) during 1980-90s. Looking back at her career, she played a 55-year old character in Chinna Veedu( her second film) when she was just a teenager. Everyone had wondered how she played that role. She even played the unforgettable character of Palani as Kamal Haasan’s wife in Balu Mahendra’s Sathi Leelavathi. Then she was seen as a lover of Sathyaraj in couple of films which were declared hit (Karagattakaran, Kaalam Maari Pochu, Periya Manushan). The greatest asset in her performance was that, she never told any vulgar lines in her comedy dialogues. At least she preferred not to do this kind of comedy at all in any of her film. Although she is a Malayalee by birth, she gained popularity in Tamil film industry only. Recently, she had acted in two successful movies such as ‘Kanchana-2’ and ‘Komban’, which was a box-office winner and people had watched her antics and appreciated her comedy. This versatile actress had learnt acting through theater participation in Coimbatore before she made her break in movies. For her family’s sake, she remained unwedded to anybody, but yet she faced many struggles with her relatives who cheated and even have emptied her bank accounts.Â
Currently, she is choosy with her films and five films are under stage of production. She will be remembered for her comedy performance in South Indian cinema. She is an evergreen actress who will continue to please every generation.
