’ that aired on NDTV. Sri Saneeswara Mahimai is a mythological serial that depicts the life story of Shani Dev, a planet god (specifically Saturn). According to Hindu mythology, Shani corresponds ominous happenings. It is a common belief that Shani would bring people doom and gloom. The serial tells them otherwise. Shani is the son of the Sun-god, Lord Surya, and his wife, Chaaya.
When Lord Surya first laid his eyes on Shani, an eclipse has occurred. Lord Surya starts to believe that Shani is an abomination and banishes from his Kingdom. He grows up in a remote place raised by his mother. Like most gods, he has a bird for a vehicle, a raven. Contrary to the stigma surrounded Shani Dev, the serial depicted that he is actually a moral person who expects the same from others. He gives his blessings to righteous people and confers misfortune upon those who are evil. In other words, he denied the fate of people based on their Karma. The serial featured various instances that showed the virtue of Shani Dev. After watching this serial, many believers have changed their view on Shani Dev and started doing prayers to appease to him rather than try to get rid of him.
