The Superstar of the Malayalam Cinema, Mohanlal picked up his first Asianet Film Award as this Year's Best Male Actor for the film Balettan. Meera Jasmine, making her debut in the Malayalam industry, bagged the reward for her very first film Paadam Onnu: Oru Vilapam. There were no nominations for the categories in this year's award for the Best Male Supporting Actor and the Best Female Supporting Actor in this edition. Kumar, the gift for the 'Best Cinematographer of the Year'. Another box office hit C. I. D. Moosa gave its Editor, Ranjith Abraham the award for this Year's Best Editor. This Year's Best Music Director was grabbed by M. Jayachandran for his composition in his film Gourishangaram. The Best Lyricist Award was caught by Vayalar Sarath Chandra Varma for his heart touching composing in the cinema Mizhi Randilum.

The Best Playback singers of the year were bagged by M.G. Sreekumar for his melodious voice in the film Manassinakkare and K. S. Chithra for her pleasant voice in the cinema Mizhi Randilum in the male and the female categories respectively. Pandyan grabbed the award for the Best Makeup Artist of the Year on the account of his work in the film Manassinakkare. Nayantara picked up the prize for this Year's Best Female New Face category for the drama Manassinakkare. The saddest scene is that there were no nominations in the most expected tag, The Best Star Pair of the Year as there were plenty of expectations among the cinematic audiences as well as the entire Kerala State that as the hero and heroine of the film Manassinakkare or Balettan.
