The first season of Brochara depicts heartfelt and authentic male-to-male bonding and bromance. This was lacking previously in Hindi short-form content. Like Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara, the show focuses less on romance and more on re-defining male friendships. It does away with cliched tropes of emotional repression and toxic masculinity.

Apart from other things, they also happen to share a common predicament: long-distance romantic relationships and all its complications. While Kannan is married, Pranay is engaged and Dhiren and Shivashish have long-term partners. These characters are quite unlike the male protagonists we have ever seen in Hindi shows.

There is no overtly done machoism, neither are they reduced to arm candies. Instead, they have complex and sometimes funny lives; they share jokes, trade secrets over beer and believe it or not, have a certain softness and vulnerability.  Carrying on from the first season, Pranay, Shivashish, and Kannan return with the same chaos, madness, and hilarity. Following Dhiren’s departure for a well-paying job in Dubai, there is a new addition to the group: Abhimanyu.

Despite his late entry into the quartet, Abhimanyu fits in like a square peg in a square hole! He breathes new life into the show with his quirks, humor, and the chemistry he brings to the table. In so many ways, the show grows up along with these beloved characters. More serious issues are picked up and handled sensitively but the focus seems to be on relationships. Throughout this, the bromance remains constant and is a source of comfort and relief.
