The Story of New Theatres was a Hindi TV show that aired on the channel, DD Bharati. The show was telecasted from 11:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday to Friday. This show was about a film studio formed in Kolkata, then Calcutta, named New Theatres. Birendranath Sircar established it on 10th February 1931. The motto of the studio was “light infusing shadows with life”. He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in1970 for his contribution to cinema. On the show, B N Sircar’s methodology and new ways of producing quality cinema were highlighted. Each episode was about him introducing new techniques and his unique style of making movies. The episodes were narrated by different veterans of the film industry and were about thirty minutes long. One can watch some of the episodes on YouTube.
