The show delves into the dark side of traditions and exposes how they can be twisted to oppress and control. The story is set in the fictional village of Haroli, which cannot be plotted in an Indian map. The show centers around the challenging figure of Amma Ji, an authoritative woman who has seized absolute power over the village by enforcing an ancient tradition known as Hara Sindoor. According to this centuries-old custom, a woman's entire worth and essence of life is defined by the green vermilion powder or Hara Sindoor she wears. Amma Ji has manipulated this belief system to rule Haroli with an iron fist. She banishes any woman who dares to defy or question the sacred Hara Sindoor rituals to the outskirts of the village called Koptukeer.
The first episode introduces us to a young bride-to-be named Jhumki, whose parents Birju and Ratia are determined believers in Amma Ji's orders and rituals. As they make preparations for Jhumki's coming wedding, Ratia sternly informs her daughter that she must first undergo and pass the Hara Sindoor customs and traditions before being allowed to participate in the Laal Sindoor (red vermilion) wedding rituals as a married woman. Jhumki hesitates to blindly follow these regressive traditions. But her family's persistent faith in Amma Ji compels her to serve which caused an internal struggle that could have serious consequences. The consequences led to the death of Jumkhi. In between this tense background Rani emerges a ray of hope. She is an ordinary village girl who has been a devoted follower of Amma Ji herself. She supports Ammaji in the begining but later begins to witness the dictatorship and injustice committed under the cover of tradition. She gets to know how these rituals are affecting the villagers. She determines to liberate her people from Amma Ji's grips. Rani takes it upon herself to confront and overthrow the oppressor's reign of fear.
What follows is an epic clash of ideologies and wills, as the once-meek Rani transforms into a powerful force challenging the very belief system she had subscribed to all her life.
