The show was also produced by the pair under the production house Elizabeth Meriwether pictures. It was originally intended to be broadcasted on the Fox Broadcasting Company but the channel walked out after ordering the Pilot episode. The half-hour show was finally then picked up by ABC network which added the name of the serial to its publicized list of upcoming projects of 2018-19. The story of the show revolves around a young couple, Mike and Rio who leave their city New York Click to look into! >> Read More... where they have been living for the longest time and move to a farm in the countryside of Nebraska.
The farm comes to Mike after his great-aunt passes away. When the couple reaches the farm they are objected to its ruined state. The couple thus decides to fix the farm and run it. They meet many interesting and amusing characters from the area, some of whom helps them while some compete with them. The show tries to capture the differences in lifestyle between a city and a village without being condescending or pretentious. The show stars Dex Shepard as Mike, a former journalist and Lake Bell (also the co-creator of the show) as Rio, a former therapist.
Apart from the two central characters, the show has many off-beat and funny characters like the town’s veterinarian played by Jim O’Heir or the couple’s intruding neighbors who always seems to find a way to frustrate the couple. All these characters made the show extremely funny and watchable. The show debuted on the ABC channel on April 16 2019 with its first season.
The first season had only 6 episodes that mostly focused on how the couple moves from city life to rural life. The second season was a bit stretched than the first as it had 20 episodes mostly focusing on the couple’s lifestyle in the countryside Nebraska. The second season aired on the channel in September 2019 and ran till May 5, 2020. The show overall received great feedback from both, the audience as well as the critics.
