Ayalkootam is a Malayalam TV show that aired on Darshana TV around 2013. The show deals with problems which a locality might face. The show is aptly named, Ayalkootam means “neighbourhood” in English. All of us live in a neighbourhood, we have friends and neighbours who live near us and help us during our time of need. However, some difficulties always arise when so many people live in close quarters.
Issues such as theft and robbery, garbage disposal, street lights, public sanitation, excessive noise pollution, wear and tear of public property always remain. The show addresses such problems. Local leaders ask people to gather around and make them aware of these issues. People come together and discuss the troubles openly and try to arrive at a possible solution.
Such types of discourses are always necessary to maintain a healthy and happy neighbourhood. This series highlights the importance of such debates and discussions.
