Punyakshetra is a religious TV show telecasted for the Kannada audience. Zee Kannada telecasted this show for their audience. The show was first aired in 2016 with a running time of one hour. The show telecasted every evening from Monday to Saturday at 6.30 PM. The show is based on aesthetic beauty, historical significance and, the archaeological beauty of the various temples situated in the state of Karnataka. Endowment Commission held a survey in the state of Karnataka in which they stated that there is a total of 5000 Hindu temples present in the state. Out of these 5000 Hindu temples around 1000 of them are popular, as people pay more visits to those temples. In the TV show, the team visits these temples and, gives the viewers a feel of the temples. The TV show brings to the notice of the viewers, the famous spiritual and religious places and the significance of the historic stories attached to them. The team of 'Punyakshetra' visited many temples in Karnataka.
They visited the Kollur Moodambika Temple, which is 1200 years old, and it is a temple of a Goddess. They also went to Udupi Krishna Temple where Lord Krishna is worshipped, Dharmasthala Manjunatha Temple where people worship Lord Shiva, Gokarna Mahableshwar Temple where Lord Shiva and Ganapathy are worshipped, Murudeshwara Temple which has the second largest statue of Lord Shiva, Kukke Subramanya Temple which is dedicated to the Lord Subramanya or Lord Katekiya or the Lord of Serpents, Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple where Goddess Durga is worshipped, Horanadu Annapurneshwari Temple where the deities worship the Goddess of food or the Annapurneshwri Devi, Guddattu Mahaganpathi Temple where the idol of Lord Ganapathi is worshipped, Shree Virupaksheshwara Temple where the architecture of this temple is a treat to the soul and eyes and, many more famous temples in the state of Karnataka.
The show was a beautiful walkthrough so as to provide the viewers of each and every detail regarding the historical and, archaeological beauty of the place. The host didn’t only visit the temples but also gave detailed information regarding the history of that temple, stories attached to the construction of that temple, the story of the God and the Goddess worshipped in that temple, the code of conduct, Pandits, stories of miracles, ways to worship and preach the deity and offerings made to the Temple.
