The 2nd International Indian Film Academy Awards took place in the year 2001, at Super Bowl Arena in Sun City, Africa. Entertained by Kabir Bedi and Priyanka Chopra, the ceremony was as good as the ceremony held in the previous year. The Indian stars were welcomed by native African dancers and met with a lot of hospitality. The joyful atmosphere of Sun City enhanced the beauty of the ceremony. It consisted of laughter, tears, and fun and it captured the very essence of Bollywood. The celebrities were dressed beautifully and walked on the red carpet, entering the arena of IIFA.
Actor Hrithik Roshan captured the honor of Best Actor for the movie Kaho Na...Pyaar Hai and actress Karisma Kapoor achieved the honor of “Best Actress” for the movie Fiza. Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai- starring Hrithik Roshan and Amisha Patel won the award for both “Best Film” and “Best Direction”.
Amitabh Bachchan won the award for best performance in supporting role (male) for Mohabbatein and Jaya Bachchan obtained the award for the Best Performance in a supporting character (female) for Fiza. Paresh Rawal was the winner of “Best Actor in Comic Performance” in the Bollywood smash hit- Hera Pheri, and the honor for “Best Actor in Negative Role” was given to Sushant Singh for the movie Jungle.
Rajesh Roshan won “Best Music Direction” award for the movie Kaho Na…Pyaar Hai. The awards for “Best Playback Singer” both for male and female were won by Lucky Ali and Alka Yagnik respectively. Hrithik Roshan’s dance performance was one of the main attractions of the night along with Karishma Kapoor’s innovative way of presenting the music awards and Les Oiseaux De Paradis’s mesmerizing and breathtaking pole act.
The special award winners included: - Ismail Merchant (Outstanding Achievement in International Cinema), Waheeda Rehman and Shammi Kapoor (Invaluable Contribution To Indian Cinema) and Hrithik Roshan (Kelvinator Personality Award Of The Year).
