Plot
Rekha is a timid girl who has the extraordinary ability to see spirits. She is hesitant to accept her love for Teju. Into this scene enters a tantrik with ulterior motives. Will Rekha be able to overcome this challenge, or will she succumb to it?
Star Performances
The only departments who were serious about their jobs in the film were the production design and the cinematography.
Had it not been for them, this film would have been just a step away from a trainwreck.
Analysis
Occult is one of the favorite genres of Indian cinema. Whether in a scene or throughout the film, this subject has been explored by many, irrespective of region. So, is ‘Tantra’ any different?
Written and directed by Srinivas Gopisetti, the film is about the world of black magic. Tantra claimed to explore the lesser-known aspects of the occult. However, the execution is an entirely different story.
To start with, the chills associated with such a project are missing. At times, you will feel uncomfortable. But not because the film is scary. It would be because of the boredom that comes with a generic script. It is hard to believe that this is the same region that produced films like 'Virupaksha' and 'Masooda'. There is a vast difference between the qualities of such films.
The actors look out of the place, and even if they try their best, their performances are affected by the absence of a compelling screenplay. Ananya Nagalla is good in her role, but even she couldn’t make up for the mess left behind by the makers.
The only saving grace is the production design and the cinematography, which at least makes this film somewhat watchable. Maybe these two departments were the only ones remotely interested in the project.

Verdict
‘Tantra’ had an interesting concept for a change. If executed properly, this could have been a welcome change in the domain of horror thrillers, especially for Telugu cinema. However, the amateurish direction and the absence of a powerful screenplay prevented it. Watch it only if you wish to examine the visuals or are a fan of Ananya Nagalla!      Â
